Case Study - Restaurant and Karaoke Bar
Restaurant and Karaoke Bar
JWPC has obtained planning permission for a new Chinese restaurant and karaoke bar in York, bringing a historic public house back into a viable use. The former public house and B&B was situated to the outskirts of York City Centre, within an area that has witnessed an increase in a local population following the construction of several apartment schemes.
Advice was provided to our client on Permitted Development Rights which allowed for the conversion of the ground floor restaurant. Despite the planning application for the karaoke rooms attracting the interest of the local press and a high number of objectors, JWPC liaised with the project architect and acoustic consultant to establish how disturbance could be minimised through the design and good management.
Through the negotiation of conditions which could be attached to the Decision Notice, JWPC satisfied the concerns of the Council's Environmental Protection Officer. A presentation was successfully delivered to Members of the Planning Committee to secure the planning permission, whom remained under pressure from objectors to refuse the development.
After substantial investment into restoring the building, the restaurant is now open and has recently been described by customers on Trip Advisor as "one of the best".View More Case Studies
